The problem with a small garage... There was always a hankering for building a boat. You can see why from what's on my doorstep... Originally it was going to be a currach , a traditional Irish boat name from skins (then canvas and now advanced polymer fabrics) stretched over a rounded wooden frame, typically made from native trees including oak and ash. The Museum of County Life down the road has several excellent examples and YouTube will offer you some assistance however projects that build currachs are few and far between. Despite advances in materials - no need to use tar - these boats are fiendishly difficult things to build for a novice so I decided on something a lot simpler. An American Skiff. A skiff is a flat bottomed boat that is designed to skip quickly over the water. It has no keel and it does not sit into the water in the way a V hulled boat will.
